Tours
At Cuba Discovery Tours we go beyond the traditional beach vacation and facilitate interactive opportunities with Cubans. These arranged visits include various places of employment, education and sometimes Cubans in their homes. When tour participants are asked what was their favourite aspect of the tour it is often these exchanges. All of the tours are balanced with Cuba's many "must see" tourist attractions and places of interest. Down time at a quiet beach location, a sense of camaraderie, and a relaxed pace complete the perfect recipe for a memorable vacation. Our success is attested to by our many repeat clients.

Costa Rica in Depth – Nature, Culture and History:

Feb 26 - Mar 12, 2011

San José (1), Tortuguero (2), Turrialba (2), Puerto Viejo de Talamanca (3), Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí (2),
Arenal Volcano (3), San José(1)

We have designed this fully escorted 2 week tour to Costa Rica following the same concept as our Cuban tours – multiple night stays, small group of primarily 50+ aged travellers, a relaxed pace, and meeting with Costa Ricans where they live and work.

Many tours to Costa Rica center around the rainforests and volcanoes, and rightly so, however in addition to this our tour gives you a much more in-depth experience which includes historical sites, visits to farms, plantations, an indigenous community and more. You will learn about the past and present history, and seeing how people live in today’s Costa Rica, directly from the people.

“I like the idea of several nights in one location. It allows for a more in-depth opportunity to “experience” the area.

Holguin (2 nights)  – Bayamo (2) – Santiago (3) – Baracoa (3) – Cayo Saetia (2) – Holguin (2)

This tour presents an exceptional opportunity to experience an unexpected and lesser-known Cuba.  We learn about the struggle for independence first from Spain, and later the United States which began in this region.  People to people visits include a ranch, nursery school, boxing school, and more.  Another highlight is visiting Castro’s birthplace, and the island of Cayo Saetia where exotic animals were imported for hunting by the commanders in the Soviet and Cuban armies.

“We have done other trips in the past and, in our opinion, this is probably the best balanced trip we ever had. We never felt pressured. Also, the fact that you limit the number of participants to approximately 20 people is definitely something we have enjoyed.”

What was your favourite aspect of the tour?  “Exchange with Cuban people in their working/living place.”
Lise Prevost & Jacques Morin, Gatineau, Quebec

Western Cuba Discovery Tour: March 6 - 20, 2011

Varadero (1 night) – Soroa (3)– Pinar del Río (2) – Cabo de San Antonio (2) – Viñales (2) – Havana (3) – Varadero (1)

Peaceful rural settings, a biosphere reserve, and a remote seaside retreat contrast with the ever-present pulse of Havana and the seldom visited city of Pinar Del Rio.  Beautiful landscapes and unique experiences including a ride on the historic electric Hershey Train await you.  People to people experiences include a community eco project, tobacco farm, primary school, and the studio of a controversial artist.
